Tongue Piercing - How Original!?!

tongue piercing at www.kiltylarkins.comRemember when tattoos and random body and face piercings were actually considered unique? Well, now take a gander at our present society. If you’re trying to be unique these days, I suggest you steer clear of the redundant and all too played out tattoos and body piercings. They might as well be a brand on cattle anymore. Who doesn’t have a tattoo on their lower back or a cliche tongue piercing? Other than yours truly, I don’t know too many people who don’t flaunt some type of body art or piercing. So if you’re shooting for originality, go for something a little more creative, and hopefully less painful.

One of the most common and most popular bodily holes to acquire these days is the tongue piercing. It appears that every rebelling teenager wants one. Do they even know the story behind the tongue piercing? I doubt it. While you may find the standard barbell though the tongue rather refreshing and different, you might want to think twice before heading to the local tattoo/piercing parlor downtown. Have you ever considered the repercussions to this trite attempt at autonomy? What if your tongue piercing becomes infected? Did you know that the hole in the tongue seals back up incredible fast? I hope you’re not planning on taking it out.

Probably the biggest factor of all concerns your precious choppers. Have you been to the dentist lately? What does your oral physician have to say about the almighty tongue piercing? I was absolutely shocked a couple years back when I visited my dentist with a cracked molar. This was the first tooth I had ever cracked in 30 years. I will NEVER chew hard candy again. And that goes the same for ice cubes. These are the usual culprits when it comes to cracked or chipped teeth. After conversing a little with my dentist, he started reeling off about the dangers of a simple tongue piercing. He claimed the standard barbells are terrible for your teeth. Apparently teenagers are constantly flipping them around in their mouths, which sadly results in a split tooth. He said the trend’s appeal baffles him, however brings him loads of business.

Therefore if you are considering a tongue piercing, I suggest you do your research first. Although the concept may sound appealing, it just might cause you future grief, not to mention a fat dentist bill.

Sun Screens

sun screensWe all have heard about the damaging effects of the sun and why it is so important that we protect ourselves with sun screens. Let the sun shine in but not too much, right? Ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays are invisible, and can be very damaging to the skin if it is not protected. This type of light causes skin cancers, altered pigmentation, dilated blood vessels, and changes in the texture of the skin. All these factors contribute to aging of the skin, which is accelerated by over exposure to the sun. Every time skin is sunburned damage has occurred, and getting multiple sunburns or being constantly exposed to the sun without sun screen protection, puts an individual at a higher risk of getting skin cancer. This applies to tanning. Even if the skin is not sunburned, damage is occurring. There is no safe tan.

Many different types of sun screens have been developed to minimize our exposure to the damaging rays of the sun. Sun screens worn on our skin provide the most protection if applied properly and consistently. Staying out of the sun during certain hours of the day is also a good way to avoid overexposure, or cover up with sun screen, a hat, and protective clothing. Sun screens are not just limited to the type applied directly to the skin.

sun screensSun screens, such as window tinting, sun shades, and other types sun filtering devices are available for homes and vehicles to screen or block out sunlight and heat. For many homeowners in warmer parts of the country, it is important to have various sun screens because the sun is so intense. Window tinting on vehicles is a must have, as well as blinds, light filtering curtains or shades, and patio shades or screened enclosures. There are many businesses that specialize in making your home more pleasant and protecting you and your family from the sun.

Sun screens are important for everyone, even if you love the sun, always tan, and donít think you will ever get skin cancer. There are many people that thought the same thing and now have skin cancer or have already died from it. Sun screen applied to your skin is probably the easiest and least expensive way to protect yourself and your family from the sun. Sun screens are easy to apply and are now included in many facial, lip, and body moisturizing products. You really have no excuses not to protect yourself from the damaging rays of the sun. Once it’s done it’s over - you can’t go back! Protect your skin and save your life. Use sun screens!

Viagra

viagra

Viagra is the most popular brand name for the drug sildenafil citrate. It is marketed today by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, and is also sold under the name Ravatio and Caverta in certain parts of the world. Viagra is designed to treat erectile dysfunction, or ED. It comes in the form of a blue pill in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg dosages. Although it is available only by way of a doctor’s prescription, there are numerous websites on the internet that sell Viagra after filling out a short questionnaire.

The drug Viagra was designed in the 1990s with the intention of treating a form of cardiovascular disease known as angina pectoris. Though it was not found effective for its original intention, researches of the drug remarked on its ability to induce erections in male study participants. It was then patented in 1996 with the intention of development as a treatment for erectile dysfunction. By 1998 it had passed the necessary tests for FDA approval, and hit the market with immediate and large-scale success.

Erectile dysfunction is a very common disorder in men, and can develop for a number of reasons. Some of the most common causes behind erectile dysfunction are psychological in origin, and are not based on any physical irregularities. Most men experience some difficulty getting or maintaining an erection at some point in their lives, even though they are otherwise healthy. For these cases, drugs like Viagra are extremely effective. Some cases of erectile dysfunction can be caused by damage to the nervous system, diabetes, or hypogonadism, and in these cases Viagra may not be effective.

Viagra is classified as a PDE5 inhibitor. PDE5 causes a compound called cyclic GMP or cGMP to degrade. Since cGMP causes the arterial smooth muscles in the penis to relax, allowing the penis to fill with blood and become erect, inhibiting the action of PDE5 will lead to penile erections so long as the individual is otherwise healthy. Some other PDE5 inhibitors available today include Levitra, and Cialis.

The most common side effects of Viagra include headache, stomach upset, flushing, and sweating. Occasionally, users of Viagra experience blurred vision, and in some rare cases have reported temporary lose of sight in one or both eyes. Viagra should not be taken in conjunction with drugs designed for angina pectoris, as together they can induce a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Even though it is available on the internet, it is not recommended you take Viagra without prior consultation with a physician. Many men find it hard to speak about erectile dysfunction, but speaking with your doctor is the best way to go.

Sunburn

sunburnHave you ever had an irritating and painful sunburn? Wow, this flaming red skin affliction can certainly get your attention. Tan lines can be very obvious but the problem is that so many people don’t understand what a sunburn actually is in the first place. I can tell you right now that it can be easily avoided. One option is, staying out of the sun. You can always have it "made in the shade." Okay, if that sounds unreasonable, I will provide you with the more popular one. Use a quality sun screen. There are a vast variety of these gracing the shelves of your local drug store. A decent sun screen is easy to find and is worth its weight in gold. Don’t let that terrible sunburn ruin your week.

In the old days, a sunburn was the sign of a working class person. The upper class had their large hats and parasols to protect their milky white skin. A sunburn was out of the question for a person of means. These days tans are all the rage, and while it is an attractive look on some people, a sunburn is just plain scary looking. Hey - get your self some indoor tanning cream!

Are you aware of what’s happened to your skin when you acquire a nasty sunburn? Let me first inform you of what a sunburn is. When you expose your delicate skin to the sun’s powerful UVA and UVB rays, you are certainly doing some damage. The redness is virtually millions of busted blood vessels. Yes, the sun can do some serious cellular destruction. Most people will say, "Well I have to get burnt first, so it will turn into a tan." Well, guess what sun-bathers - this is quite damaging. Not only does it result in premature lines, wrinkles and dry skin, but may also evolve into skin cancer. That sensitive sunburn is just the beginning. However, if you did spend a day basking in the glorious rays, you may want to apply some decent after-sun products. Some of the more popular treatments for sunburn are aloe vera gel and a variety of creams you can find online. This will help re-hydrate the delicate skin and encourage repair from that nasty sunburn.

If you’re an avid sun-bather, I suggest you browse for some quality sunscreens. Your product should at least have an SPF of 15. This basically means that your skin can be exposed to the sun 15 times longer than normal without getting damaged. Sunscreens are definitely a smart contemporary trend that will surely get bigger as time moves on. In reality, the best way to avoid a vicious sunburn is by taking the necessary precautions. If you are headed out into the sun, you’ll want to not only apply a good sunscreen, but bring one along to re-apply later if needed. That powerful star should not be taken so lightly. The age-old myth about the sun being healthy has finally been obliterated. After all, who wants to suffer the pangs of a harsh sunburn?

You’re Gonna Need An Ocean Of Calamine Lotion… Poison Ivy Cures

poison ivy cures at kiltylarkins.com
A bad poison ivy rash can take weeks to go away and can drive you crazy with itchiness. As an avid backpacker and camper, I’ve had my share of poison ivy rashes, and I’ve tried a lot of different poison ivy cures. Some of them don’t do anything at all, yet others are actually very effective.

The best poison ivy cure is of course avoiding it in the first place. You could always tiptoe through the tulips instead - for once you get a poison ivy rash, it is very hard to cure completely. So don’t get one! OK?

Wearing long sleeved shirts and long pants is always recommended if you suspect you may be around poison ivy. This can be difficult, as backpacking often causes you to work up quite a sweat, but its worth it. Long clothes are also a good way to prevent ticks, so its more than just poison ivy you’re protecting yourself from.

Learn how to identify the plant. There are pictures of poison ivy all over the web, and once you’ve seen poison ivy enough times in real life it becomes easy to spot. If you think you’ve come in contact with poison ivy, wash off with soap and water as soon as possible. Also, thoroughly wash your clothes. Washing the oil within half an hour after contact off is effectively a poison ivy cure. There are also some preventative poison ivy lotions available that can boost your resistance.

Once you’ve got that rash, it’s going to be hard to remove, but there are some poison ivy cures that will hasten its departure. One thing that works great for me is hot water; I just run the effected area under some hot water for ten or more minutes several times a day, and within five days the rash is gone, whereas it would otherwise stick around for much longer.

Five days is still a while, but there are other things you can do to speed this up even more. There is a lotion called ‘Tecnu’ that is just shy of being a magic poison ivy cure in itself. Using the lotion regularly will greatly speed up the rate that your poison ivy rash leaves. Additionally, if you rub this lotion on within a day after exposure, it often prevents the poison ivy rash from occurring in the first place.

So the best poison ivy cure I’ve found to treat the rash is hot water plus Tecnu. Used together (but not at the same time!) I’ve gotten rid of rashes in less than three days. In the meantime, I find that some lotions, such as calamine lotion, can reduce the itchiness. (You’re gonna need an ocean, of calamine lotion!)

The George Foreman Grill

george foreman grillWhen the George Foreman Grill first came out I was skeptical. It seemed like another "seen on TV" sham; some sort of worthless kitchen appliance that suckers would buy and never use. It would join Salad Spinners and Magic Bullets in the back corner of kitchens’ shelves, gathering dust and waiting to be thrown out, sold off in the next garage sale, or donated to charity when the corner of unused appliances filled up to the brim. The George Foreman Grill looked a little chintzy, and I didn’t see any reason to trust an ex-boxer when deciding what kitchen appliances to purchase. What did George Foreman know about grills or cooking? Maybe I’d consult him when deciding to buy boxing gloves or a punching bag, but when it came to the kitchen I’d trust Betty Crocker before I’d trust George.

Eventually a friend of mine moved in and became my roommate; he brought with him a futon and a George Foreman Grill. I’ve always fancied myself a bit of an amateur chef, so I finally gave in and gave the thing a try. I had problems with pan frying meats and vegetables in the apartment; since the exhaust fan merely vented smoke back into the apartment smoky dishes tended to set off fire alarms. After a couple of conversations with our fire warden I was ready to try something new.

The George Foreman Grill was a blessing. It let me grill steaks, hamburgers, and chicken breasts quickly and without smoking out the apartment. The grill heated up quick and cooked both sides of meats or vegetables at once, cutting down on cooking time and getting food in my belly quickly. Though the fat draining system was a big selling point for many, I’m not sure that it was something to get worked up about. Sure, excess fats drained out into the specially-designed dish, but in a regular grill these fats would just burn off anyway. Also, I’ve seen other models of the George Foreman Grill come with hot dog bun roasters or other such attachments; these seem superfluous as well. The grill itself, however, surpassed my expectations by a long shot.

The grill doesn’t sit buried in the back of my cabinets; it’s on the counter ready for the next time I decide to grill something up for dinner. I don’t use it quite as much as I do my microwave or my coffee maker, but the George Foreman Grill is handy, especially in a cramped apartment where we don’t have enough room for an entire couch, much less a patio with a gas or charcoal grill.

Abdominoplasty

tummy tuckMaybe you’re lucky. Maybe you don’t have a tummy that protrudes a bit more with each passing year. If you’re not one of the lucky ones though, you might consider abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck sounds like a funny name, but rest assured this is no laughing matter.

It’s a surgical procedure. So that means there are the risks associated with it. The thing to do is figure out whether in your case the benefits outweigh the risks. The benefits are considerable.

But first, a little description. Abdominoplasty is the reduction of excess skin and fat from the abdomen and the tightening of muscles of the abdominal wall. Depending upon the needs of the patient and the methods of the surgeon, a tummy tuck can vary in scope. Some doctors combine abdominoplasty with liposuction, for example, while others to not.

Why have a tummy tuck? It reduces the normal sagging that is part of the aging process. For women, childbearing can especially accelerate this sagging. A tummy tuck can get your tummy closer to a youthful, flat state. For many, this provides not only a physical lift, but a mental lift as well. The results can be dramatic.

This procedure is especially appropriate for middle-aged women and men who are in good health and who have tried diet and exercise but have not been able to reduce the fat deposits and loose skin around the abdomen. If you’re in the process of losing weight, it’s better to wait until you’ve reached your goal to have the procedure. It can be the icing on the cake to your new physique.

It’s important to read as much as you can about the procedure before you make a decision to go ahead. Are you willing to risk side effects and even death (extremely rare) to look better? Many of us are. If so, the selection of a surgeon is critical to your successful outcome. Interview several and ask for references. You need a surgeon who makes you feel comfortable, answers your questions-someone you have confidence in. And there’s no substitute for talking with other people who’ve had the procedure.

Financially, you’re probably going to have to foot the bill yourself. For most, it is an elective procedure not covered by health insurance policies. It’s always good to check though because your doctor and insurance company may deem it necessary if, for example, your overall weight threatened your health and you had stomach reduction surgery, and now your body needs some toning and tucking due the results of the procedure. It’s worth a try. But first, be sure you’ve given diet and exercise a good try before you decide to try abdominoplasty.

3 Day Diet

Everyone, it seems, is trying strange fads or ingesting crazy concoctions to lose weight or improve their health. They want a get slim quick fix, or an easy elixer of youth, or something else equally absurd instead of to take the time actually required to improve health. The latest fad is called the 3 day diet, and it claims that, by consuming what it tells you to, you can lose ten pounds in three days. Come on, what are we foolish. It tells you to eat saltine crackers, toast, eggs, tuna, coffee, tea, apples, cheese. All regular stuff, nothing magical or ìhigh techî in any of it, and in 3 days, you’re supposed to lose all of that weight. I have trouble believing it.If it is true, it is probably because of the small amount you eat on the 3 day diet, and it probably is mostly ìwater weight.î Water weight means that what you lose is mostly water flushing out of your system, and very little body mass is actually reduced. Losing water weight is actually pretty pointless since it just means getting dehydrated. This can be dangerous, and is certainly unhealthy. The best way to lose weight is the old, traditional way, in my oppinion, although it takes a little longer. You exercise regularly, eat lots of green leafy vegetables, and also fruits in moderation, cut out processed and fatty foods, and don’t snack between meals. Also, very high carbohydrate food is not really good for your diet either as it will fill you up with calories. This is not a 3 day diet, or even a 30 day diet, but nonetheless, within a couple of months, you will be slimmer and healthier, and happier too.

There are diets that are outright dangerous. The atkins diet, for example, works by throwing your liver into ketosis by eating nothing but lots of protien. This can cause liver damage, and in some cases, death. Nonetheless, it does make you lose weight at a high rate of speed, but once you get off it, you will probably gain the weight right back.

If you are going to get on a 3 day diet program, one thing to consider is what kind of exercise to do to supplement your dieting. Jogging is very good, but can be hard on your knees. Bike riding is a little safer on your joints in the long run. One of the best exercises, however, is swimming, because it is zero impact and exercises the whole body. Personally, I like to swim for at least half an hour every day. Nothing makes me feel healthier or more refreshed.
